Shoes Or No Shoes

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Depending on the workout you are participating in, you may or may not actually need workout shoes, sneakers, running shoes, etc.  Now if you’re going out of your house, obviously you probably need shoes.  But if you go to the gym, it would depend on the class.  In some classes, they do prefer you to keep your shoes on and wipe sweat just for sanitation reasons.  But if you work at home, you can make your choice.  If you are doing a stretch or yoga class, it is usually acceptable not to wear shoes.  If you go to a dojo or dojang to participate in martial arts, there are special shoes.  However, they usually request that you go barefoot unless you have those shoes.  The big thing is cardio workouts.  I mean people actually do walk casually barefoot.  But when you are really walking more and moreover running, shoes actually provide a certain cushioning to the foot in certain specific areas.  So because of that and other factors, I would personally recommend wearing shoes for that.  However, it is up to you and in truth, the research is limited in this particular area.  Mostly, they have tested to see if it makes a difference in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.  Barefoot appears to produce less load on the joints than typically hard-soled everyday shoes for said individuals.  But in terms of the sneakers, it was unclear.

Workout Advice

Michael Mejia MS CSCS has worked as a Men’s Healthcare advisor for years and has created his own approach to serious weight loss.  He claims that you should get a 6 pack in a few short weeks, if you are doing the right things.  You may have it already, it’s just a matter of uncovering it by getting rid of that extra fat.  He tells you to spend just 24 minutes per day actually working out.  That sounds ridiculous yes.  But he claims that in that time, you can achieve greater fat loss, stamina, and extra muscle for a chiseled body.  If you believe that long aerobics are the way to go, you are wasting your time.  The idea is actually to do something more concentrated.  For example, take a serious run for a shorter period of time, yet solid, and your metabolism will continue to burn more calories for at least an hour after.  Moreover, if you spend part of your time lifting weights, you will gain weight in muscle but lose fat and achieve greater benefits.  If you use his workout, you will use explosive exercises and combination lifts, and you switch between two basic workouts during weeks.  It is extremely simple, and users have already lost pounds and inches, because he has studied quite a bit of what the rest of us for the most part don’t understand.
